    If you calculate the effects of something, especially a possible course of action, you think about them in order to form an opinion or decide what to do.

    e.g. I believe I am capable of calculating the political consequences accurately...
           我觉得我能准确预料此事的政治后果。
    e.g. The President is calculating that this will somehow relieve the international pressure on him.
           总统预计这可以从某一方面缓解自己所承受的国际社会压力。
