    If you are on the verge of something, you are going to do it very soon or it is likely to happen or begin very soon.

    e.g. The country was on the verge of becoming prosperous and successful...

    e.g. Carole was on the verge of tears.
           卡萝尔差点就要哭了。

2. 路边;(道路的)植草边沿
    The verge of a road is a narrow piece of ground by the side of a road, which is usually covered with grass or flowers.
