1. （由于羞愧或难为情而）脸红，涨红了脸
    When you blush, your face becomes redder than usual because you are ashamed or embarrassed.

    e.g. 'Hello, Maria,' he said, and she blushed again...
           “你好，玛丽亚，”他说，这让她脸上又泛起了红晕。
    e.g. I blushed scarlet at my stupidity.
           我为自己的愚蠢羞愧得满脸通红。

2. 不让…尴尬；避免使…难为情
    If you spare someone's blushes or save someone's blushes, you avoid doing or saying something that will embarrass them.

    e.g. 'We don't want to name the man to spare his blushes,' said a police spokesman.
           “为了不让当事人颜面扫地，我们就不指名道姓了，”一位警方发言人说道。
