1. 祖宗;祖先
    Your ancestors are the people from whom you are descended.

2. 原种；原型
    An ancestor of something modern is an earlier thing from which it developed.

    e.g. The direct ancestor of the modern cat was the Kaffir cat of ancient Egypt...

    e.g. The immediate ancestor of rock 'n' roll is rhythm-and-blues.
