1. 近来；最近；不久前
    You use lately to describe events in the recent past, or situations that started a short time ago.

    e.g. Dad's health hasn't been too good lately...
           爸爸的健康状况近来不太好。
    e.g. Lord Tomas had lately been appointed Chairman of the Centre for Policy Studies...
           托马斯勋爵最近被任命为政策研究中心主席。

2. 新近卸任；最近离任
    You can use lately to refer to the job a person has been doing until recently.
